Australia Day 2012

we spent it fairly quietly but took the boys to the lake in the morning as it was going to be a hot hot day!

   

The boys love the new playground there and the net swirlies swing thing is a huge hit!

salty glitter collage

The boys were keen to test out the salty glitter we made yesterday so armed with some cardboard, glue, paint, wool, paper it was gluing time!

They were happy enough for about half an hour before Tyler decided that he really needed more glue and added it straight from the bottle to his collage. Luckily Daddy walked out just in time to rescue it (sort of!)

Ahh school holidays…

Cold weather + school holidays isn't a great deal of fun to a couple of bored kiddos. Good thing that we had some crafty things on hand to work on. I bought some noodles to thread and glue and paint as well as making some salt glitter. I wasn't sure how well it was going to turn out but I am rather impressed with – especially since we always have salt and food colouring on hand.

The recipe…

1/4 cup salt and 4-5 drops food colouring.

mix it thoroughly and put in the microwave to 2 minutes.

Spread out on baking paper till cool and use it to decorate.

see super easy.

 

Ok so there are paints and glue today. the glitter is still drying for another day.

First snow trip and day!!

We figured the first day of the long weekend and a really crappy week was a great excuse to get out of town. We woke up to sunny skies so we headed out to try and find some snow. We ended up at Selwyn and realised that the boys didn't have any gloves so while Daz was hiring toboggans I went in search of the gift shop. Kiddos gloved up and snow to be dug and slid in and thrown and we were set! The boy absolutely loved it. as you can see!

 

 

We are determined to go back a lot more this season as it was so much fun!

the art of blowing bubbles…

The boys have really enjoyed blowing bubbles lately. Tyler started out yesterday doing it then Caden joined in.

[<  I haven’t gotten to all of Caden’s pics yet hopefully tomorrow. But here is one that I just love!

 

 

 

 

Oh and

oh and on a side note – the entire bottle of bubbles is no more. Tyler thought it would be funny to finger paint in bubble and tipped it all over the desk. the only thing that saved his butt is the fact it was out side. he was banned from bubbles and had to clean it up. Sigh boys what can you do?!

Determine to learn

Once we survived cranky kids and cranky mummy, sleep is a godsend! Caden woke up and was happy to ‘work beside me on my desk today. We went through some of my school files today to see if we could find some worksheets  and was happy to do anything. He spotted a magic number table that I set up for a class a couple of years ago looking at the addition of 1-10. We grabbed the matchsticks and off we went. He went away and after dinner came back and we worked on it for nearly 45 minutes. Here is how far we got today – plus he mastered writing 8’s!

 

After a while he was starting to see patterns and work out the next number without counting on or with the matchsticks! Yay Caden!! Well done little man! You are going sooo well!

When words come back at you…

Tyler went a bit quiet today, then I heard the thudding, crashing, banging. As I went to investigate this is what I saw…

 

My mistake was asking what he was doing……

“I am cleaning up this pig sty”.

That is right not the room. Oh no the toy box.

So that was this afternoon. This morning they were artists…

Visit to Questacon

We went on a lightning quick trip to Canberra today to take the kids to Questacon. A science based exploratory museum I guess you would call it. I haven't been for years and years and The boys had a blast. We first visited the dinosaurs. They had 5 dinosaurs there which Tyler was a bit scared of at first but was pretty happy soon enough.

Tyler was testing out how fast the ping pong balls would travel down the twists and turns.

The boys were fascinated the currents of air pushing the ball up in to the air.

Dazza checking out the earth quake exhibits and Tyler trying to pick up the illusion. It was pretty funny as he was there for ages before he finally figured it out that there was no golden statue to actually touch.

Caden teaching Tyler about the Tsunamis then both of them pushing the big and little wave buttons and seeing the difference.
