looking good!

While the last few weeks have been really really rough with Daz being sooooo sick. There is nothing like a dose of chicken pox as an adult that turns into CP pneumonia and is life threatening to make you really appreciate how precious life is. The boys had it, They had it for 5 days and honestly they were hardly sick or soptty really. Now Daz, well consider head to toe spots and sick sick sick. We did a dash to the ER at 5pm on a Thursday night. He was feeling worse and we knew it wasn’t just normal CP. Thank goodness we did. 4 nights in hospital, 4 weeks off work – 3.5 of them on the couch or in bed, losing 12 kg in that time (well the first fortnight) very good doctors that picked up how sick he was early and the fact that we listened to our gut means that we caught it in time. After a recent appointment with a respiratory specialist he told us how lucky we were as in some cases it can be fatal. Daz still has a way to go before he is back to 100% But I gotta tell you that he has come out of fabulously and spunky! and skinny! lol!

little bit of this, little bit of that

Today has been a bitser of a photo day and a just a busy day all around! Tyler and I checked out his new preschool. He snapped it when he had to go. It is great that he wanted to stay and play. We went shopping as well and he was really good, not that we bought anything but hey it was nice to be about and about.

This  afternoon the light was lovely in the lounge room and I tested out my reflector.

Caden thought it would be funny to try and throw buckets of water at mummy's camera - yeah not!> and then the bucket it self

and this is what he is supposed to be doing but at 8.45 he is actually out in the kitchen helping me take photos and test out my calibration of my lens :)

is what I am usually saying by now. But this week has been full of excitement, busy stuff and still ok. Tyler was home with me today and it was really nice. We started by waking up to this...

then it stopped for a while. So I got bored and grabbed the camera to try and get some big tough bubble shots. well I got small rainbow bubbles..

however persistence does pay off...

Proud Mama Moment

I was a proud Mama this morning - day three at big school and way before the bell he was off after a quick kiss and cuddle and a bye mum! Woohoo He loves school! The little one was out of there too onto a bike then into the sand pit and as happy as Larry!

When we picked Tyler up today as we were walking out to the car he looks up and says "love you mum" aww melts my heart every time.

My Caden is loving school. It has made it so easy this week that he enjoys it. He has made a couple of little friends which I am sure as he gets to know them will grow in number.

The house was given a Garth clean today and it feels so much better

what a mess a thought can create

This is a over 2 day post. Daz measured and built some new storage shelves in the cupboard for me as the bookcase was over flowing and all the crap was just shoved in. But it was getting to the point that there was no hiding it, there were overflowing piles on piles on piles. So in typical J&D fashion we ripped out the old, made new and had a heck of a mess. I didn't get a before so you can just use your imagination...

in semi organised chaos and piles on the little desk, and the rocking chair and the cupboard and the floor... (need I go on?)

I loaded them up and they fell down again, Daz being ready to be Mr Maker again

and voila new and clean and organised the new storage spaces. The only thing that I was annoyed at - the teaching resources took more space that the photo props!

I got bored and no one else was around...

So I took my own photo! Surprisingly the broom,  a balloon suspended from the light fitting and a carton of coke work really well as stand ins for focusing! It is curious a) just how many dumb faces I can pull, b) how often I tilt my head - now I am seeing why I have tilted photos :)  and c) I think I am going to have to start 'prettying' up the corners of my eyes they are getting crinkly! lol!

so here I am again Apparently this January I have been determined to get in front of the camera as well as behind!

apparently I don't like my elbows or I have too much of a wing span! (in camera crop!)

Self portrait challenge

Well I snuck it in! the self portrait challenge on 2peas finishes tomorrow officially but I guess it doesn’t really matter when you take it :) Anyway I had a session with my friends daughter this evening in which I shot fully manual and I am really happy with the results - they will be up later! and she also got to test out the 'big' camera with shooting me! I set the ap and everything else for her but she had a quick lesson in back button focusing and then we were all good! This is the shot that Emily took!

Great Job Em!

Oh and we got to go and see Avatar today in 3D. Holy smokes what a great movie! We got to sit in the back row so we got the full force of the #D effects. Daz had a good chuckle in the 3D preview when I ducked at a ball. yep colour me pink he had a great chuckle! The boys are keeping G'ma or should I say G'ma is keeping the boys very busy over there - wearing them out completely. They have been swimming every day and Caden has learned to do a couple of strokes. I am so proud of them. This is the longest we have been away form them since they were born! We are ready to have our kiddos home now even though the quiet is nice. Chaos is still better with human tornadoes around. I am glad to be able to say that as the other day I didn't think I could!

learning new skills

I have been determined to learn how to crochet. well I can fully admit that my first few attempts were complete and utter failures. So I left it for a few days and going to Canberra the KK and I made some cool stripey beanies for bubs. so this one that I made with a flat panel from the brim to the pompom (opposite to the way I usually do them) and here is Georgina (who desperately needs clothes to wear lol modelling for me! An a bunch of match sticks cause they just looked cool and I like the reflection my table gives.

 

and my successful attempt at crochet!! I made my first hat. Mum has taught me how she casts on but my new hat seems to be turning into a doiley. hmm we will have to get some expert advice on what I am doing wrong I think in a couple of days! But YAY me I did it!!>

{beginning to rebuild} I got it!!....

I finally got around to getting my hands on a new 50mm f1.8 II canon lens from my 50D. Oh it is sweet. I knew that I was missing something and it so feels right on the camera now! Not that I don't love my Tamron lens but I have a feeling deep down that I am a prime girl. Now to save for the 85mm!

Ok I confess....

ok I confess I am a self portraitaholic! I do it all the time. It doesn't matter if I have my big SLR, my little SLR or our new (and old) point and shoots I take em. They make me smile and crack me up every time I see the silly things I do. Hey it gets me in the pics too, they are fun and I get good ones too :). Daz just rolls his eyes and pokes out his tongue or pulls the funny faces when I drag him into them. But he gives me great smiles too! At least we get in the pics together!

So.... we gave the kids (ok it is supposed to be for them but me too!) a little samsung p&s this one...

well along with my new mobile (which I needed desperately since my old really didn't like the washing machine nor the cycle I put it through) and a couple of cars of the boys and no I didn't crop it cause I am too lazy lol! huh well waddaya know looking at this pic and there is a big ol sticker that says a self portrait mode... hmm gonna have to check that out lol!

Day 30 Daily December

WE headed off to Canberra today to see Mick and Ally and the kids. The new car went really well. Daz and I enjoyed the fact that we could listen to music while the kids watched a DVD thanks to the extra power plug in the back. As usual the kids fell asleep 1/2 an hour out from town so they were a tad shy when we first got there. That didn't last long. James was so excited to see them and within about 10 minutes they were all having a great time in the toy room. We couldn't believe it there was not a murmur or squabble out of our boys at all all day! amazing! Ally and I went shopping at Belconnen for a couple of hours while the kids played in the playground and Daz and Mick caught up. While is was  a big fail shopping wise for me I was really pleased that Daz had a great time. I picked up some very cute Santa/penguin/teddy bear lolly /cookie jars for 75c each which is cool for Christmas next year. I also bought a couple more Richelle Mead books - start of a new series that look to be really good. I think there are some photos on the p&s but I haven't downloaded them yet. Since Ty slept all the way home he was  not interested in going to bed so here are some self portraits that we took - Daddy wasn't happy with the flash so his is being kept out :)
