Ty and I went shopping this morning for some new props for some bubbas that I am going to shoot soon (with my camera :P). And here are some that I have been making as well....

My boy will actually let me take his photo and move around to where I want him. Today I was testing out some garage light and focus and then working on getting other stuff right. But regardless Oh I love this boy. He is starting to get a sprinkling of 'fairy kisses' on his nose and they are too cute! This is the cute pic...

Well I snuck it in! the self portrait challenge on 2peas finishes tomorrow officially but I guess it doesn’t really matter when you take it :) Anyway I had a session with my friends daughter this evening in which I shot fully manual and I am really happy with the results - they will be up later! and she also got to test out the 'big' camera with shooting me! I set the ap and everything else for her but she had a quick lesson in back button focusing and then we were all good! This is the shot that Emily took!

Oh and we got to go and see Avatar today in 3D. Holy smokes what a great movie! We got to sit in the back row so we got the full force of the #D effects. Daz had a good chuckle in the 3D preview when I ducked at a ball. yep colour me pink he had a great chuckle! The boys are keeping G'ma or should I say G'ma is keeping the boys very busy over there - wearing them out completely. They have been swimming every day and Caden has learned to do a couple of strokes. I am so proud of them. This is the longest we have been away form them since they were born! We are ready to have our kiddos home now even though the quiet is nice. Chaos is still better with human tornadoes around. I am glad to be able to say that as the other day I didn't think I could!

Caden might have been bored but he does know his Mum! He went looking for the the little camera and took a couple of photos which he want's printed - we must do that tomorrow!
but here is two of his shots - he lined me up and waited for the focus beeps and after the pic asked "was it too flashy?" there is a proud mummy moment photography wise :)
The other is the shmozzle that is our lounge room. It is clean now cause I snapped it and told them to clean it up after stepping on yet another toy today!
I think that he has done an awesome job at taking these and many more to come. I think he is going to prefer to be behind the camera not in front of it!

The other day I decided it was time to attempt a pose like one a friend did of her little girls. Well let me tell you her pose? sweet as can be. My pose? my boys look like they are strangling one another :) However in saying that she has sweet girls and my boys? well I love them to death and yes they have sweet moments but they are pure boys rambunctious, full of energy, never stop running, jumping, wrestling, talking yelling ... did I mention NEVER STOP! :) anyway I managed to capture some sweet moments that reflect them in their entirety from cheeky to solemn to sweet to loving to choking one another.
One of the reasons I started on my journey in photography was to be able to get the quality portraits on the walls the way I want them not the way that someone else does them. I had some professional shots done just before Tyler's 1st birthday. I was actually disappointed it them. They are lovely shots in the setting I chose in the studio but they just seemed to lack the oomph that I wanted. Maybe just me but I knew then I knew what I wanted and since I have worked towards doing for myself and now hopefully others. Anyway on Tuesday I actually did it. I got a series of photos of my boys that I love. For the most part technically there are a few tweaks that with more experience I can improve on but I am happy and for me to say that is such a big thing. I know a couple a blurry (because I forgot that I was bbf) and a little cooler (will fix that up before printing) but to get that rare moment was worth it. I am so overly critical of myself and in particular my photographs that I am never happy. So here are my happy pics of my boys. I have cropped them all to 11x14 and will be getting them printed when I can save a bit of money and framed in these gorgeous timber frames I have found. They perfectly complement the boys hair and have a black trim like the bg.

I finally got around to getting my hands on a new 50mm f1.8 II canon lens from my 50D. Oh it is sweet. I knew that I was missing something and it so feels right on the camera now! Not that I don't love my Tamron lens but I have a feeling deep down that I am a prime girl. Now to save for the 85mm!

I tried to attempt some Christmas lights as a background today. Caden was my willing participant (Tyler is sick sick sick :{ ) at least for a little while. We set it all up had the music playing and minor success as I did get some bokehed lights (well red ones lol!) but Oh the smiles make my heart melt. Here is my gorgeous boy on the count down to his big day.

I have been trying to use the light in our house and figure out the best spots to take photos and get some great pics for the Christmas cards this year. still working on it but gosh I am happy with these shots of my boys!

I have been so stressed and frustrated lately with my pics being out of focus and blurry, underexposed and you know just crappy. This is compounded by putting just about everything I hear or see about pp in my photos ALL AT ONCE> I have been trying to get back to basics with my pp because I am realising the photos really are not that bad just need a few minor tweaks to make the WAY better in camera. But my PS skills need scaling back and refining.
SO today we had a little ray of sunshine coming through Tyler's window. I told the boys that they could have some lolly's if they let me take some pictures and I would follow it up with a cake as well. They were quite happy to do this for me today and we had some fun! I nailed my exposures and my focus and then I also tried a new way of pping and nailed it in a Much better way than before!
so here are my cuties in a SOOC and edited order. 
so as my second attempt at the lighting assignment I was way happier. as I was with the colours and everything else!
finally may have had an aha moment!

This week we are looking at :
1. Use a fast shutter speed outdoors to photograph your moving subject
2. Experiment with panning
3. Embrace a little blur indoors
4. Take action - practice your skills at a sporting event
5. Take a portrait of your pet-in-motion
so here are my results for catch moving subject, embrace the blur and I guess sporting event if you can say jumping on the trampoline is at a sporting event!
I have been seeing awesome sun flares for some time on other peoples blogs and websites. oh they look lovely. through playing a little bit and figuring out the right aperture I did it!!
we were out the back and next door has these cool cool trees that give me plenty to photograph year round as they are blossoming in spring, colour changers in autumn, naked in winter and wither a lush green or a gorgeous burgundy/purple colour in summer. at the moment they are stripping off for those cold bare months. being autumn I jut love the cooler crisp days that the sun just seems to be that little bit brighter and the colours more vibrant. so here is my sun flare!

This week was about using natural light and shooting without the flash. We were looking for the light in the house and when to use direct or indirect light. I have to admit to not being as vigilant with this weeks lesson having only done the catchlights and indirect light part of it. I am going to have to try and catch up with the rest this week some how.
anyway I utilised my time at the hospital with Caden and Daz to practice the indirect light. the sun was over the building and we were getting gorgeous light but not directly shining through the window. I placed Daz at about 45 degrees angle from the light which caught the shadows just right and created catchlights in his eyes. we also did some self portraits as well that used it. There are a few of Tyler from before that I was trying to do the direct and indirect light but see what you think!
This one was taken in front of glass sliding door that is under a patio roof. he is parallel to the doors (and so am I), taken in morning with full sun hitting the house from the direction he is facing.
Ok I have found the rest I knew I had done them!

well I had to try it again to get my feet in focus. IT is a little bit closer but I think next time I will try using my kit lens because it is wider than my 50mm and I am too close. anyway I am getting there! I have my absolute favourite shoes on that have just about had it and I really don't want to replace them as I have had them for nearly 5 years!!! (and they are still comfy!)
Week Five is all about creative composition. The assignment asks you to utilise 6 principles of composition -
1. Keep it Simple (KISS)
2. Apply the Rule of Thirds
3. Keep an eye on the horizon
4. Frame your subject
5. Fill the frame
6. Try a new perspective.
